Capel Parish News is a church and community magazine published monthly and distributed to some 400 subscribers within the civil parish of Capel and surrounding area.  It is published by a sub-committee of the Ecumenical Church Council.  The membership of the Parish Magazine Committee includes the editors, members of the pastoral team and ECC alongside members of the Parish Council and the wider community.

The magazine is edited by Hilary Andrews and Claire Songhurst, who ‘job share’ the workload and fit it around their work and families.  In addition to the committee, a small team involved in the magazine production and distribution collectively ensure that our magazine arrives on our door mats promptly each month.  The committee, the editors, and all involved in the magazine production give their time voluntarily.

The magazine aims to reflect not only the life and work of the parish churches, but also community activities within the parish.  We include material each month from our pastoral team and also information and articles of interest from the Diocese and the wider Christian community.  The Parish Council does not publish its own newsletter, but uses the Parish Magazine to relay monthly information relating to the civil parish to the community.  Many of our local organisations, groups, clubs and associations provide us with a plethora of monthly reports which inform and entertain our readers.  From time to time we run competitions; we have an annual Christmas drawing competition for children of the parish.

The production costs of the magazine are funded purely by the nominal subscriptions and a minimal amount of advertising, as we aim to publish a magazine that is both informative and interesting to read, without the intrusion of too many adverts.  In recent years we have been able to purchase a colour printer and we are now able to produce a colour issue of the magazine at least twice a year.

MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS

The magazine is now available as a printed magazine and also as a pdf digital copy. Copies of the printed magazine are available to purchase in both our parish churches and also in the Village Stores, Five Oak Green.  Annual subscription to the magazine is currently £6 for 12 issues (printed, digital or both). Delivery is free if you live within Capel Parish or the surrounding local area. If you live outside of the free delivery area we are happy to post it to you (currently for an additional £9 p.a.).  An online colour version is also available either in addition to or instead of a paper magazine.  Payment for subscriptions can be taken in cash on delivery or online with a card payment.
If you would like to request a subscription please also email: cpnsubs@outlook.com.

ARTICLE SUBMISSION

The editors always welcome articles on a range of subjects from all areas of the community.  Our readers love bygone memories, articles from the younger generation, letters to the editors and the odd recipe or two!  We are also happy to publicise charitable events taking place in the local area.

Copy deadline is the 8th of the month for publication the following month.  To submit articles for the magazine, please send as a Word file attachment by email to the editors, or for handwritten items, place in the Parish News box outside of Oak House, Five Oak Green Road (near village green). The Editors can also be contacted  on 01892 834337 (Hilary) or 01892 832083 (Claire).
